Mom was born in 1935 and passed away January of 2016. Mom and Dad retired to Sun City and traveled for about 20 years before her death. She loved the country way of life, Country Western music and traveling. Every weeknight on 96.3 Real Country you can hear Dotties Country Memories featuring her favorites like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Dolly, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and many others. This monthly remembrance of Mom brings back many memories.I remember one year we had a great family 4th of July celebration. It had all the relatives, food, games and fireworks you could ever want. Of course, we had the bucket and we cranked and made homemade ice cream, oh yeah. The memorable part of this celebration was not the reading of the Declaration of Independence or us honoring America and celebrating our freedom. The forefathers that were so inspired to give us the life we have in America were not really on our minds. No, it was my new car catching on fire because my brother-in-law shot a bottle rocket into the open window.Have a safe, fun, remarkable, and reflective July because your life today is as good as it is because of our American past. For Independence Day.Patriotic Gelatin SaladRecipe and photo courtesy of tasteofhome.comINGREDIENTS2 packages (3 ounces each) berry blue gelatin2 packages (3 ounces each) strawberry gelatin4 cups boiling water, divided2-1/2 cups cold water, divided2 envelopes unflavored gelatin2 cups milk1 cup sugar2 cups sour cream2 teaspoons vanilla extractDIRECTIONSIn four separate bowls, dissolve each package of gelatin in 1 cup boiling water.
