APACHE WASH TRAILHEAD1600 E Sonoran Desert DriveO n October 7, 2023, Glendale Equestrian Club staged at 8:00 for an 8:30 ride at Apache Wash Trailhead. With Darwin in the lead position, eight riders rode around the base of the mountain as we followed the Apache Wash Loop. We rode for 2.5 hours and saw plenty of people while on the trail during our loop ride, all very accommodating to us (as we were to them). Some of us are not crazy about getting up extra early on the weekends, but the temperature has yet to decline enough so we are not riding in the heat of the day and frankly ya gotta do what ya gotta do to keep your horse in prime condition for the upcoming winter season of riding. Spotty cloud cover and just the right amount of breeze made for an ideal ride. There was a spot on the trail near a little wash that had a tree across it just a few weeks ago that required dismounting and going under. Not sure who came through and professionally cut it back, assuming it was a park employee, but the trail was free and clear on this date to continue without issue. Apache Wash caters to hikers, bikers, and horses with a modest parking area just for trailers and a generous stationary concrete mounting block. This trailhead offers five different trails to explore so longer rides are possible at this location. If you want easy riding and minimal rock terrain, this is the place to go. Be sure to practice Leave No Trace in the parking area.
