Producing Premium Horse & Cattle Feed Since 1985 Artist Delphia Gough calls the Wickenburg Art Club Artisans’ Fair a “mecca of artists.” She loves the gathering of talented artists and the “creative energy you can feel when you walk on site.” This jam-packed art fair is in its 53rd year of providing the public with juried artists and reasonably priced hand-made arts and crafts. Passing the “jury selection” guarantees that every artist’s work is made by his or her hand and has been accepted as quality craftsmanship. Next to the fair, inside the library, the art club’s Fine Art Show will also be open for viewing. This juried show includes a “Peoples’ Choice Award” voted on by visitors to the show. The 2018 art fair will offer more than 100 artisans eager to share their wares and talents with the thousands of people attending the 70th Annual Gold Rush Days in Wickenburg. The Artisans’ Fair is a major event included in Gold Rush Days. The three days of fun also include a carnival, rodeo, parade, classic car show, and many other attractions. “It is too much to experience in one day,” Gough states. By Linda McNulty Wickenburg Art Club, oldpasketti@aol.com, (928) 684-6828 “I am a good example of what the Wickenburg Art Club can do,” says handcraft leather and textile artist Leslie Pavlich. I got my start from attending the club and showing my canteens. I was encouraged to be creative. I presented my work and was juried. I remember the judge’s remarks, “I love your work, but I want to see more from you.” So I entered my first art show ever at the Artisans’ Fair at Gold Rush Days and actually won a ribbon. For me to even be considered for a ribbon with the artists they have in the Wickenburg Artisans’ Fair was such an honor. I did very well at my first show and my business took off from there. Because of the encouragement, I wanted to invent more, so I started making leather bags. The next year I purchased a booth and it was a great show. I come every year, not just because I live here, but it is the best show for me during the year. I get an opportunity to see past year’s customers who still use my bags. They come to purchase new ones and see what I have made new for the year. I like to invent new products. The fair is a great way to show your new products to customers that know you. I now have my own website westerncanteens. com and travel throughout Arizona going to many art shows every year. What is important to me is that I make all my own product and do all my own shows to show my product. You are able to give that personal touch that you get nowhere else. The Artisans’ Fair at Gold Rush Days is one of the shows that I see people come from all over the U.S. to show off their art. They have some stiff competition from our own Wickenburg Art Club members. Artisans’ Fair at Gold Rush Days runs February 9, 10 and 11th at Stone Park, 164 East Apache Street, Wickenburg, Arizona.
