The school, also, would serve as meeting place, social center, and church. An organ was included in the furnishings. It was permanently closed in June of 1916 and by 1961 nothing remained of the structure but the log frame. By 1967, local residents had restored the old structure to a point where it was secure and weather- proof. In 1979 and 1980, the newly formed Pine/ Strawberry Archaeological and Historical Society decided to restore the interior and open the school to the public. Thanks to old-timers who had either taught in or attended the school, their descendants, and hundreds of interested, helpful residents, the Strawberry School was formally dedicated as a Historical Monument on August 15, 1981. The road is hard packed and good for medium clearance 2-wheel drive vehicles. Clear Creek Campground About 45 minutes from Fossil Creek Bridge. There are several places to camp dispersed near the bridge and downstream. Camping is prohibited within 1/4 mile either side of Fossil Creek from the old Fossil Creek Dam, downstream to the bridge. Camping is allowed downstream of Fossil Creek Bridge if your camp is at least 100 feet from the edge of the creek. Camping is also allowed upstream of the old Fossil Creek Dam. Campfires are prohibited within 1/4 mile of Fossil Creek from the head of Fossil Creek downstream 10 miles to the Stehr Lakebed near milepost 3 on FR 502. Driving off-road is prohibited.
