ArizonaRealCountry.com 7 March 2018 Maricopa County 4-H Camp G.R.I.T. 4-H Camp G.R.I.T. will be offered again this summer for Maricopa County youth both in and outside of 4-H, ages 9-14. Campers will have the chance to learn how to lead, explore the wilderness, and enjoy amazing activities they might otherwise not have a chance to do! The word G.R.I.T. is an acronym used to define what 4-H camp is all about: GROWING: Camp teaches you new things and helps you grow old skills. REACHING: Disconnects you from day-to-day life and connects you to a brand new hands-on learning. IMPACTING: Leaves positive impressions and memories that follow you for the rest of your life. TOMORROW: Prepares you to tackle any and every challenge you might face tomorrow. 4-H Camp G.R.I.T. will be held at James 4-H Camp in the cool, tall pines of Mingus Mountain near Prescott from July 12-15. Campers will be guided by 4-H Staff and qualified counselors selected from all over the county and from all By Tim Lonchar, Maricopa County 4-H AmeriCorps Volunteer For a more comprehensive list of the opportunities available, go to: extension.arizona.edu/4h/statewide-projects Or for information on how to join 4-H in Maricopa County, go to: extension.arizona.edu/4h/getting-started walks of life. Our counselors have gone through a rigorous application process and have amazing references to back them up. They will have completed over 60 hours of training in order to serve as camp counselors. Parents can feel confident that their children will be safe, treated well, and will have an amazing time! During the four-day, three-night epic adventure, campers will meet and make new friends, join camp families, participate in multiple camptivities (i.e., fun camp activities), and feast on delicious, healthy meals. The following are some of the possible camptivities being planned for this year’s camp: • Arts and Crafts (Dreamweaver’s, Survival Bracelets, and more!); • Campfire Pow-Wows (Awesome stories and songs!); • Shooting Sports (Archery and Air Rifle target shooting); • Mountain-based activities like hiking and orienteering; • Water-based activities like swimming, canoeing, and fishing. 4-H Camp G.R.I.T. is sponsored by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Maricopa County Office, and is conducted in cooperation with the professional staff at James 4H Camp. Early bird registration ends March 15 and last registration ends June 18 with final payment due July 6. Space is limited, so don’t delay.
