JB said, I have the cows in a trap, we just need to move them to the road. Its about two miles from the trap to the road and about three miles to the neighbors ranch. I said Yes sir, Id be happy to help out. JB replied, Open 7 Days A Week10am5pm You know the routine. I replied, Yes sir. The routine was that I would arrive at his HQ one hour before the rest of the helpers for the day. JB and his wife welcomed me Located in Stagecoach Village into their home. As I walked in and said good morning I was handed a cup of black coffee. It was delicious, and was followed by a great breakfast of bacon, eggs, biscuits, 7100 E Cave Creek Rd, Suite 139Cave Creek and gravy. After breakfast, we would saddle up, wait for the rest of the help and get Store: 480-322-2486 or call Trish: 405-714-7582 the day started.stickhorsegallery.com As we gathered by the pens, JBs helpers for the day and the neighbors ranch hands were discussing the plans on how we were going to move the cows. I would always get close to Mr. Kiker because he had great ideas and I wanted to hear them and learn from him. While discussing the plans JBs neighbor said My foreman can take the point and lead the cattle. As we finished discussing the plans, JB rode up to Mr. Kiker and me, looked at us, and said: He is going to lose the cattle and when the cattle start to run, Pete you take the point and Junior you help Pete stop them. JB always called Mr. Kiker Junior, a privilege he had earned. I always called him Mr. Kiker.EXPOSING YOUR BUSINESS TOSure enough, we started to move the cattle and had probably gone about one hundred yards when the cattle started to move faster. After another fifty yards the cattle were THOUSANDS OF POTENTIALat full speed. I heard Mr. Kiker yell, Pete you know what to do. Yes sir, I replied. I CUSTOMERS MONTHLY gave my yellow horse his head and got in front of the cattle. I looked forward and saw we were approaching a draw very fast. I made a quick decision to let cattle run past the draw before turning the herd. I saw a clearing in the draw and I ran down the draw at a fast pace. As I was going through the draw my horses head disappeared. I remember thinking to push off hard and roll fast. I was in the process of flipping my horse, I hit the ground and remember rolling and rolling, not sure how many rolls but when I came to a stop my horse was getting up. Mr. Kiker yells, You okay? I replied Yes sir. I jumped on my horse and up the draw we went. We got ahead of the cattle, turned them and stopped the cattle with the help of Mr. Kiker. The cattle settled and we led them to the road. Once on the road, the neighbors foreman took point and led the cattle to the neighbors ranch. That yellow horse was one tough horse with a big heart. He was a little stiff for a few days but had no major injuries. Looking back, I realize that in life we are going to fall hard and the Lord is there to protect us when we fall hard. The Lord does not want us to get up and show pity or feel sorry for ourselves. He wants us to get up and get back in the saddle and continue following His will in this journey of LIFE.
