My wife and I just returned from that one week vacation in Sandusky, Ohio where we spent it with our 8-year-old granddaughter. It was a great week; we only get to see her once or twice in person each year since she lives in Ohio. She is growing up, developing a personality and has likes and dislikes but most of all it was great to connect with and experience the love a grandparent can shower a grandkid with. Ok, did I get all the niceties out of the way and say what most of you wanted to hear? Now let's get to the real week of… I want this, the park opens at 9 am and we are going to ride every roller coaster in Cedar Point Park. I don’t want to go on that coaster; it goes 120 mph straight up and straight down. I know that is the new Magnum coaster but Grandpa wants to keep his breakfast with him for the entire day. Grandma will ride the octopus and all those rides that go round and round really fast. Please just go on one ride by yourself, let grandma and grandpa get a breather, NO, ok let's go. This ride gets us soaked and we will be wet the rest of the day, ok I will go with you. You get 2 chances to kick the blocks off the table for $5.00 and if you do you win a $2.00 stuffed animal. You want to try again, again, again. What if we go to the gift shop and I give the person $5.00 and get a stuffed animal, NO, that’s no fun. I’m hungry, OK, now we're talking. Tomorrow we’re going to the water park and ride all the slides, “oh boy.” It’s waterpark day and the first slide all three of us get to go down in a tube, but they put grandpa going down backward and we get into dark tunnels not knowing where we are and turning and sliding and oh thank goodness that is over. Let's go down this one called the DROP, we walk 6 flights of stairs to a chute they put you in and drop you straight down till you go into a total blackout and start spinning, “Dear Lord, please get us to the bottom safely.” Let's go down this mat slide that you lay on your stomach and you get jostled every way but the way God made you to be. From 9 am to 8 pm it was go, go, go. Good thing grandma was a real water slide pal to our granddaughter. They sent me a survey after 2 days at the park and wanted to know if we would make this an annual family event… HECK NO, did it and survived. Today I’m back at work and it’s like the first day of my REAL vacation. Only one thing would get me to vacation the way I did and that is the love of a GRANDCHILD. 40
