The set was advertised as consisting of four pieces, including a bracelet, ring, earrings, and of course, the squash blossom necklace. The items were made by an unknown Navajo jeweler during the 1970s who crafted them using what has now become, the rarest and most highly sought-after turquoise in the world - Lander Blue. Several dealers and collectors participated in the bidding. In the end, it went to an internet bidder who is a collector of Lander Blue turquoise. The primary value was in the turquoise itself, however, the purchaser told staff at Western Trading Post, that he liked the idea of it being set in a vintage sterling silver settingthat it added to the history and aesthetics of the turquoise.Western Trading Posts January auction was one of their semi-annual Advanced Collectors Auctions where the best in Western collectibles and vintage turquoise jewelry are offered.Other collectible items of note sold at this auction were:A pair of matching Colt pistols, with custom Edward Bohlin grips and an EdwardBohlin-made double gun belt rig. The set sold for $17,360*.A Remington - Hepburn No. 3 Falling Block rifle in .45-70 caliber, which was madein the 1880s. It sold for $13,440*.A cluster style concho belt made by a Navajo jeweler, using Carico Lake Turquoise,which sold for $11,760*.Two matching engraved Colt pistols with gold inlays done by the Master Gun Engraver,Charlie Baker, which sold for $11,760*.And a third-phase Navajo chief's blanket made of Germantown wool dating to the 1890s,which sold for $10,640*.Co-owner and lead auctioneer, Jim Olson said, We had great buyer attendance from all over the country for this auction.
