ArizonaRealCountry.com 19 January 2019 The Arizona Junior and High School Rodeo Association Shooting Event The Arizona Junior and High School Rodeo Association shooting event was held at the Wickenburg Sportsmen’s Club on November 9, 2018. There were 14 junior high and 13 high school participants in the .22 rifle 3 position portion that included standing, sitting, and prone at 50 yards. Seven members participated in the shotgun trapshooting at standard clay targets and .22 rifles at paper targets. All did their best to qualify and move up to the nationals. Competitions are moved around the state each year to make it fair for those driving long distances. Arizona is just one of the states participating in the national program. The NHSRA has held shooting competitions for both Junior High and High School Divisions since 2007. Contestants from every state and province qualify for the events at their state/provincial level and the top 4 contestants from each state or province can compete at the National Finals. Competitions for Junior High: .22 Caliber (Smallbore) Rifle Competitions. Contestants qualify at the state level and compete on the National Level at the NJHFR for scholarships, buckles and other prizes. Competitions for High School: Competitors can compete in both .22 Caliber (Smallbore) Rifle Competitions as well as a Trap Shooting event. After qualifying at state competitions, competitors will be vying for scholarships, Gist buckles, and other prizes.
