Located in Coconino County, the road to the summit is asphalted. It’s called Snow Bowl Road. The Arizona Snowbowl is located 7 miles northwest of Flagstaff on Highway 180. It's one of the highest mountain roads of Arizona. In winter, Snowbowl is home to Arizona’s longest ski season with over 260 inches of annual snowfall and the state-of-the-art snowmaking system. Snowbowl offers the premier winter experience from mid-November through the end of April. Known for its 2,300 foot vertical rise, the variety of trails, the largest learning terrain in the Southwest, three parks, fresh powder, served by six chairlifts and two lodges, Hart Prairie Lodge and Agassiz Lodge, Snowbowl has something to offer everyone. SKIING Originally developed in the 1930's as a ski resort and lodge, the thrill of the downhill remains an enticing lure for winter visitors. With an average annual snowfall of 260 inches and 32 trails, the Arizona Snowbowl is the premier ski destination along the Colorado Plateau. The lifts typically open at 9 a.m. Snowbowl has 55 runs on 777 acres (22% beginner, 43% intermediate, 22% advanced, 13% expert runs) with the longest at 2 miles. Eight lifts including six aerial chairlifts and two surface conveyors plus Arizona’s first and only high-speed 6-person lift keep everything moving. SNOWBOARDING In addition to the trails, the Sunset Terrain Park offer both skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to test their freestyle skills, negotiating such obstacles as rails, spines, half- pipes, and fun boxes. Sunset is where the pros show off and where you’ll find exciting events and competitions all season long. The Prairie Dawg Start Park is perfect for those looking to experience park features for the first time. Guests will encounter low profile boxes and snow features. This park is ideal for everyone in the family looking to improve their park skills. DayDreamer Progression Park is the newest terrain park featuring creative small and medium rails, boxes and jumps designed to offer a natural progression. Users will find that the skills they learned in Prairie Dawg Start Park will prepare them for the Progression Park and offer an opportunity to advance their freestyle skills to a point where they feel comfortable on some features in the Sunset Park. SKI BIKES With the popularity of ski bikes on the increase, Arizona Snowbowl is embracing the trend and offering it as an alternative. Ski bike riders are considered skiers and shall understand and comply with the same rules as skiers and snowboarders. A ski bike is considered a person and lifts will be loaded accordingly. For those looking to improve their downhill expertise, ski and snowboard lessons available for all levels. SKIwee, Ridge Runner and Ridge Rider clinics (ages 8-12), as well as Slide to Success (3-days of lessons, lift tickets and rentals for beginners), are available at Snowbowl. You’ll get your lift ticket at Hart Prairie Lodge – the ticket windows are outside the building and inside Hart Prairie, you’ll pick up your rental equipment, sign up for lessons and take your kids to the Children’s Center. You’ll also find food and beverages, bar and entertainment, repair shop, the Hart Prairie Sport Shop, first aid, and lost and found. Agassiz Lodge Retail Store also carries the essentials you may need – from coats to gloves to feet warmers. LODGING There are 25 cabins open year round at the Ski Lift Lodge & Cabins, providing close-in accommodations in a crisp, alpine setting. Each cabin has a front porch and some include a gas burning fireplace. All are equipped with the comforts of home with sheets, television, shampoo, and soap.
