LIVE LIFE TO ITS FULLEST. My thoughts were down and written for this month’s Howdy, then I was looking for a picture for Dottie’s page and came across some words about my Mom’s life that I gave at her Memorial Service and I was flooded with emotions. Maybe some can relate to a loved one that is no longer with us but lives with us daily inside our heart. Then think about the way you treat those that are right next to you and who you interact with daily, are your words and actions the last words you want someone to remember you by. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend to all. She was born in 1935, grew up a child of the 40's and 50's and married high school sweetheart Frank. Mom never passed up an opportunity, if she didn’t know how to do a job—she learned it. She applied to be a bookkeeper and the owner asked, “Do you know how to keep books,” she replied NO but I’m a fast learner. The same owner paid for her to become an airplane pilot because it was something she wanted to accomplish and did. Mom landed her own radio show when she was tired of hearing a woman read recipes and called the radio station manager to voice her viewpoint, he offered her a radio talk show that featured a variety of topics and guests. She wrote a newspaper column. She raised funds for the local Chambers and produced The Better Living Show, a West Valley event. She started a business called Party Go Round and many others. She started a Women’s conference called “Women of the West” where women could get together to learn and network from each other. This was a huge success and she talked about it often. Mom and Dad traveled around the world and RV’d across the United States and Canada. Mom knew how to work and work hard. It did not matter to her what religion you were, your color if you had a handicap, how rich or poor you were. She believed it was important to meet everyone and “life them up.” My Mom made a difference in my life and in everyone’s around her. What a legacy she left everyone with her vigor. My hope is that you have someone in your life that resides in your heart and you get to love on them always. My hope in 2019 is that you get a chance to “life them up” – the people you surround yourself with. This is a poem I ended Mom’s memorial service with … God saw that she was tired; a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around her and whispered, “Come with me.” With tearful eyes, we watched and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes “the best.” table of contents 57 Classified Ads 58 Taking Care of Business: Special Advertiser Section 62 January 2019 Calendar 63 January 2019 Events 28 1 9 24 63 30 & 37 23 Mike Barna, Publisher ArizonaRealCountryMagazine@gmail.com
