Carole and Gary Wilder, Payson, AZ met Vikki and Dean Sandvik, Wickenburg at an ETS competition a year ago and a common interest developed to introduce Equine Trail Sport recreational riding to Wickenburg, AZ. Both families have a long history of equine involvement from breeding, showing, training, and competing in horse events in AZ, Midwest, and the Rocky Mountains. Carole and Gary have sponsored and produced over 80 trail competitions in Arizona over the last 8 years and have developed a reputation for finely-tuned events that challenge riders to improve their skills. These events are accomplished in a fun, recreational environment at a level of competition that is laid back and enjoyable. ETS is all about having fun on the 6-mile obstacle trail while challenging yourself and improving/ developing your skills and connection with your horse. You choose how many days to ride: 1 day, 2 days, the tough ones ride all 3 days. Bring that great horse out and show us what you two can do. Proceeds from this event will support Bethany’s Gait in Prescott, AZ and Boyd Ranch in Wickenburg. Bethany’s Gait is a horse rescue that uses horses for therapy and healing with returning and prior military personnel, and first responders. Services now include counseling and support for wives and families of military and first responders. Boyd Ranch is a 160-acre equestrian center that has developed and continues to develop into a “world class” facility for most anything equestrian from campouts, to large trail ride groups, and is becoming a magnet for hosting mule events. Boyd ranch has thousands of acres available to ride and yes, the Hassayampa River runs through the property. The river should be dry this fall. Equine Trail Sports offers an opportunity to show what your horse/pony/mule can accomplish on the trail when they reach an obstacle. Judges will be looking for soft gentle cues, the connection between horse and rider, horsemanship, precision, smooth flow through the obstacle as opposed to a quick jerky movement. Both horse and rider will be scored on a 1-10 scale with a maximum of 20 points per obstacle. The course is rated easy. Shoes or boots recommended due to some rocky spots. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: Friday 1:00: Short course, gnarly, twisting obstacle race, (at a walk only), time added penalties for rule infractions such as Breaking gate, being off course, complaining about spotters or management.
