A wide variety of locally-grown plants, including herbs, perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, natives, and house plants, will be available, in addition to garden art, tools, pots, and books. Master Gardeners will answer your gardening questions. Bring tools (pruners, shears, scissors, loppers, axes) and knives for sharpening and a tune-up (no serrated edges, please). Sharpening prices range from $2-$6 (2-sided axes are $12). Local musicians will entertain shoppers. Proceeds from the sale support Master Gardener community education activities. All sales are cash- only. And please, no pets. Master Gardeners are qualified volunteers who provide science-based horticulture education, support local efforts to beautify and improve local gardens and landscapes, encourage citizens to conserve irrigation water and prevent the unnecessary use of pesticides and fertilizers. All Master Gardeners have completed a 4-month class offered by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Yavapai County. The class covers much of what gardeners need to know about botany, soil, irrigation, native plants, safe management of insects and weeds, vegetable gardening, fruit production, and other topics. In 2016, 166 Master Gardeners contributed 13,892 hours of educational service to Yavapai County residents. Volunteer efforts included: staffing help desks at the two Yavapai County Cooperative Extension offices; giving talks to youth and community groups on a wide range of gardening topics; educating in school habitat programs; staffing information tables at area Farmers’ Markets and other community events; assisting in the greenhouse at the Veteran’s hospital; helping with floriculture and horticulture at the Yavapai County Fair and assisting with Highlands Center for Natural History plant sales. Yavapai County Master Gardeners invite the public to join them for Monsoon Madness on July 15, 2017. For more information, call 928-445-6590 x222.
