November 2018 50 Glendale Equestrian Club RIDE REPORT By Robert Piekow,… Publicist gecriders.com Back in the saddle after summer break…it just so happens that not everyone took the summer off, as there were a lot of rides to just about everywhere. Given the high temperatures, most rides in the summer were not official GEC rides. Members that went on the rides did so out of desperation for exercise for the horses and themselves. GEC covered a lot of miles at places like Table Mesa, Jackass Flats, Wickenburg Rodeo Grounds, and Twin Peaks just to name a few. To kick off the fall GEC rides the club chose a Saturday ride to Granite Mountain near Prescott, followed by a campout at Groom Creek horse camp. It was a good ride in perfect weather on the Granite Mountain trail, followed by a trip into downtown Prescott for dinner and a little people watching. I’m not saying watching little people… I’m saying watching people for a little while. There was dancing involved too on Whiskey Row with our GEC members doing a little two-step of course to country music. Sunday morning back at Groom Creek we started out through the tall pines toward the famous Apple Orchard where we hoped to harvest some of the apples we observed as babies last spring. Unfortunately, time restraints cut our ride short, so we did not make it to the apples. One of our riders DeAnn found out much to her surprise she was riding a jumper who pitched her high into the air. It was quite a sight to see her and her horse sailing over the large log she thought her horse would just step over, both recovered intact. All in all the short weekend was just perfect with the weather and the riding.
