ArizonaRealCountry.com 23 October 2018 It is one of the darkest chapters in the history of the Arizona Territory and of Yavapai County. Neither authorities in Yavapai or Navajo Counties probed the murders, preferring to ignore the ghastly deed. To this day nobody knows who rode with Houck that August 11, 1888, and carried out the triple lynching of these innocent young men. Stott had not filed formal papers on his ranch lands as yet and was still in the process of proving them up, a common practice in those days. Houck following the lynching never got formal possession of the Stott ranch, but some say he did indeed “run his sheep on Stott’s land” until 1903 when the property was formally purchased. The Stott-Scott-Wilson Cemetery is close to Hangman’s Tank off Hangman’s Trail. Neal Du Shane Present this ad at your tour to be entered to win in our monthly drawing.
