Anticipating a mid-90-degree day, we were lucky enough to have some cloud cover and a slight breeze which made for a perfect combination. There are many miles of trails to explore past the wash and up into the hills from Gates Road. Trish pointed out the various trailsmore time and cooler weather, we could ride all that joined our route, letting us know that if we hadday. As we rode, we looked out from some of our higher vantage points where we could see views of the old train trestle, grazing cattle, and far off in the distance, cars traveling down Hwy 60. We shared this ride with a family of javelina, and a pair of mule deer. Deb and Richard had a rare sighting of a beautiful Gila monster. The hedgehog cacti were blooming with lively pinkish-red flowers and most of us commented on them as if we had never seen a flower in the desert before! Equestrians get to marvel at the little things, and we are lucky to have the opportunity.
