December 2018 24 The Arizona Horseman’s Challenge & Expo is gearing up for another great year. The event is three days of horsemanship clinics, education, exciting exhibitions, shopping and also is host to Arizona’s premiere colt-starting championship. New this year will be an AZWEC Working Equitation horse show to be held during the event. Working Equitation is a fun sport that challenges both horse and rider with a mixture of dressage and trail obstacles. It is a representation of the working horse; developing and advancing the training of both horse and rider. Working Equitation draws on all the basic skills required to work a farm, a ranch or livestock while encompassing the fundamentals of traditional dressage, but done in a working style which requires riders to demonstrate their horsemanship capabilities by showing off their skills and developed riding techniques. This sport welcomes competitors from all breeds and disciplines and encourages all ages and levels of training. The AZWEC show will be on Friday and Saturday, April 19th and 20th with an obstacle clinic offered Sunday, April 21st. This is a great opportunity to see what this sport is and has to offer, as well as take part in a clinic to learn with your horse.
