ArizonaRealCountry.com 33 December 2018 Heaven gained a true cowboy on Thursday, October 25, 2018. A.R. “Buster” Webb, 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Bloomfield, on the original Sullivan homestead. He was born August 12, 1941, in Shiprock, New Mexico, to Tam and Betty (Sullivan) Webb. His family homesteaded the area just south of Bloomfield, New Mexico, along the San Juan River. Throughout his childhood and as a young man, he spent much of his time gathering wild horses and wild cows in an area that is now the Carson National Forest. Team roping and calf roping were his competitive events. After several years working at power plants and building on the Rio Grande Gorge, Buster and his wife, Barbara, began W/A Rodeo’s in 1967. He roped and rodeoed throughout the Four Corners area of the US. Buster and Barbara determined there was a need for a stock contractor who paid attention to both ends of the arena while promoting the western way of life by providing exciting bucking stock and even timed event cattle. For 51 years, Buster and Barbara produced rodeos including high school, college, regional rodeos such as GCPRA, CPRA, NMRA, International Professional Rodeo Association rodeos, and National Senior Pro Rodeo Association events. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, they teamed with Dave Eastlake, NSPRA Sanction Chairman, to broaden the NSPRA footprint in Arizona and Nevada and produced rodeos for NSPRA in Apache Junction, Wickenburg, Buckeye, Estrella Park, and Lake Havasu. W/A Rodeo’s also produced NSPRA Rodeos in Wyoming, California, Colorado, and Nevada. His livestock awards and professional accolades are long but highlighted by his 2015 induction to the Senior Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and as a Heritage Award Recipient for the New Mexico Rodeo Hall of Champions. He loved his livestock and prided himself on taking excellent care of them. He knew their personalities and they were family, in his eyes. Buster also loved his family and they loved him. He will forever be remembered by his wry sense of humor and the eternal smell of cigars while standing tall in stature as a man of impeccable character. He was preceded in death in 2004, by Barbara, his wife of 41 years. Survived by daughters: Suzanne Webb Anarde of Fowler, Colorado and Lisa Webb (Donny Wilkinson) of Bloomfield, New Mexico; and grandchildren, Avery Cousins (Rock), Syracuse, KS; Austin Major, Fowler, CO; Alexa Major (CD Wilcox), Hobbs, NM; and Breanne Buchner, Fowler, CO. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to the New Mexico Rodeo Hall of Champions – Heritage Fund, PO Box 22, Quemado, NM 87829. Cards and condolences can be sent to W/A Rodeo’s, Box 383, Bloomfield, NM 87413.
