HISTORY OF BUCKEYE DAYS Buckeye, a cotton region with fertile land, ideal climate and ample water was built on hard work and simple means. In 1925, library services were initiated by Buckeye Woman’s Club. Club leaders believed a new and improved building for a library would further education, develop pride and leadership in it’s citizens. In 1966, BWC led a campaign for a new library, originating “Buckeye Valley Pioneer Days” as a means of revenue. Pioneer Days in the early 1920’s attracted celebrities like Jimmy Lecky, Hop-A-Long Cassidy and Roy Rogers. Attractions took place in buildings that remain on Monroe Avenue in Historic Downtown Buckeye. There were also local contests during these early day celebrations like the Whiskerino Contest. In past Pioneer Days there was always something for the whole family like Carnival attractions and Buckeye Cotton Exposition. Through the years BWC and American Legion sponsored “Pioneer Days” which continued to flourish with the cooperation of many local organizations and youth groups. Today, BUCKEYE DAYS is sponsored by Buckeye Main Street Coalition, a volunteer organization dedicated to revitalizing Historic Downtown Buckeye, Arizona.
